On 15thNovember, 2017, Wang Ke, the Chinese Ambassadress in Tanzania, visited the Confucius Institute at University of Dodoma (UDOM), which was co-established by Zhengzhou University of Aeronautics(ZUA). She talked with the Chinese President of the Confucius Institute and the President of UDOM.
Wang Xiaohui, the Chinese President of the Confucius Institute at UDOM, gave a brief introduction of this institute. As of 2017, the number of students at Confucius Institute has hit a new high of 4,695. Among them, 34 students have won the scholarship of Confucius Institute, and 13 have won the scholarship of Henan provincial government. Besides, 2 Tanzanian native teachers have obtained master's degrees in China and are now teaching in the institute.
According to Prof. Kilula, the President of UDOM, this is the first Confucius Institute in Tanzania, which is of great significance and has made remarkable progress.“The Confucius Institute not only serves as an institution to teach Chinese language and promote Chinese culture, but also contributes to the friendship between China and Tanzania.”UDOM attaches great importance to the construction of the Confucius Institute and provides independent office buildings and teaching buildings for teachers and students. “I really appreciate these teachers for their hard work. I’m looking forward to seeing more bilingual people in the future.”Professor Kilula said.
Ms. Wang Ke expressed her gratitude for UDOM’s support and caring for Chinese teachers as well as its recognition of their hard work. The Confucius Institute is an important window for the world to know more about China, and a vital bridge for cultural communication between China and Tanzania. Teachers in Confucius Institute are pioneers and guardians of this window. They are envoys of culture who are responsible for teaching Chinese and spread Chinese culture. Ms. Wang Ke hoped that these teachers would overcome difficulties, stick to their posts, and make greater contributions to the communication and friendship between our two peoples.
