School of Aeronautical Engineering
Founded in 2011, the School of Aeronautical Engineering is one of the most characteristic schools that our university set up and developed. At present, there are 25 faculty members including 3 professors, 5 associate professors. One of them has won the honor of being listed as Academic Leader in Science and Technology by Education Department of Henan province, and 2 have won the title of Backbone Teachers in Henan province. 73% of the faculty members have received doctoral degrees.
The school now offers three undergraduate programs: Flight Vehicle Propulsion Engineering, Flight Vehicle Design and Engineering, and Flight Vehicle Quality and Reliability, all of which are attached to the discipline of Aerospace Science and Technology. Our school is the first, and the only one that is able to set up an undergraduate program for aerospace in Henan province. In 2015, the school began its outstanding talents training program in the major of Flight Vehicle Propulsion Engineering, to explore a talent cultivation mode which can provide capable and practical aerospace engineers.
There are currently 968 students in the school, who are from 26 provinces. Our school, putting the students’ growth first, spares no effort to enhance the development of students’ comprehensive quality and to promote the students’ innovation ability. Hence, our students have won tremendous prizes and awards in various contests, such as Challenge Cup, China Aero-modeling Challenge, AVIC UAV Grand Prix and Future Aircraft Design Contest. In the past three years, the employment rate for our graduates has reached 95%. They are employed by AVIC, airlines and military forces. The proportion of postgraduate acceptance also ranks among the best in our university. Most of them continue further study at such prominent universities as Beijing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics, Xi'an Technological University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Civil Aviation University of China.
The school now fosters an Aeronautical Engineering Research Center which consists of several key laboratories such as Thermal Engineering Laboratory, Fluid Mechanics Laboratory, Gas Dynamics Laboratory, Vibration and Fault Diagnostic Laboratory, Aero-engine Disassembly Laboratory, High Performance Computing Lab, Sheet Metal Forming Laboratory, Aircraft Innovation Laboratory, and one Aerospace Showroom. These laboratories cover a total floor area of 1700 square meters, whose equipments worth more than 100 million yuan, which can satisfy the demands of teaching and research.
The research capability of our school is steadily increasing. In the past three years, we have won 5 awards at the provincial-level, and undertake one project by National Nature Science Foundation of China and 15 provincial projects. In December 2015, the school founded the Institute of General Aviation Engineering and Technology, which marked a new height in its research capacity. In terms of scientific research, the school has strengthened its comparative advantages and characteristics in the fields of aircraft gas dynamic design, wind turbine design, aero-engine fault diagnosis, aero-engine vibration strength, aero engine maintenance and superplastic forming. Meanwhile, it has been exploring new thoughts in the lines of aircraft design, micro engine design, general machinery design and manufacturing etc..
While Zhengzhou Airport Economic Zone brings the drive for Henan province’s economy boost, it also generates new needs for the development of high-end aircraft design and manufacturing. Thence, the school will take full use of its advantages and make contributions to the emerging aviation industry in Henan province.
