On June 3rd in Tanzania, a preliminary contest of“2016 Chinese Bridge: Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreigners across the Globe”in Africa was grandly held by Confucius Institute supported by Zhengzhou University of Aeronautics and University of Dodoma. A total of 23 Chinese-learning students from universities and middle schools took part in the competition. This competition was the only live show and the other African countries will conduct the online competition.
The competition consisted of three rounds including a talent show, written test and oral quiz. The contestants demonstrated extraordinary talent skills through Marseilles’s Allegro“Wine Buffs”, Martial Arts Association’s Chang Quan, ShaoLin Quan and Xiaohong Quan, Chinese-learning students’Taichi Shan, Yangko Dance, ethnic dance, Chinese popular song, national song, Song Mix and other performances.
The Oral Quiz comprised several parts, includingself-introduction, poem reading (chosen by contestants themselves), Q&A and so on.“Farewell to Cambridge Again”by China’s famous modern poet Zhimo Xu and“I Love This Land”by patriotic poet Aiqing were the most frequently chosen poems during the competition. What contestants affectionately performed gave a full expression of their love for Chinese poetry and their understanding of Chinese culture.
Top-ranking players were awarded by PRO.NYONI, dean of School of Humanities and Social Science in the University of Dodoma, and Xueyu Zheng, President of Confucius Institute.
